I recently showed you the curves I’d been quilting so far this year in my Daybreak Pivot Quilt but now I want to take you back to my very first curvy quilt experience! The Modern Fans Quilt Pattern from Suzy Quilts

I was so scared of piecing curves for so long and once I jumped in I couldn’t get enough (clearly, haha!!) so when I tested this pattern for Suzy I ended up making not one but TWO Modern Fans Quilts.

This Chambray Modern Fans was actually the SECOND quilt I made but I love it the most so you get to see it first! I used scraps from previous quilts and my favorite Robert Kaufman Chambray.

I made the scrappy denim version right before we were going to be traveling for several weeks while Eleanor was receiving therapies out of state so I set it aside to hand quilt! I quilted it “big stitch” style using this size 8 perle cotton.

Using a ruler and a disappearing marking pen I continued the circle shapes and then marked out lines about 1” apart and rotated the direction for each block.

Back to the FIRST Modern Fans I made! This is the quilt I made to test the pattern and I made it with this gorgeous linen from Forage by Anna Graham and a few kona solids

I was completely surprised how approachable cutting out the templates were once I switched to the smaller 28mm rotary cutter.

Really pretty quilt, pattern and fabrics.
